GREGG SEDGWICK

CREATIVE STRATEGY

About

01 About

A highly experienced independent brand and product development consultant, Gregg is a rare combination of both creative and strategic capabilities. As an entrepreneur and commercially-minded leader, he has built successful design and branding consultancies alongside his high-profile work in cultural/arts-based retail.

He is a mentor to designers and fosters a great sense of teamwork through his hands-on and pragmatic approach.

He sold his large creative strategy company, gscs (Gregg Sedgwick Creative Strategy) to WPP and formed gsFitch in 2010. He raised significant private equity funding for his retail group in 2017 and divested his shares in a management buyout in 2020.

Gregg’s most powerful asset is his ability to simplify and rationalise complex brand and organisational challenges into effective, long-term and beautifully designed solutions. He has applied his talent to multiple large scale branding and product development projects – providing insightful and meaningful solutions with an emphasis on strong design.

In parallel, Gregg created a large cultural retail group; g-1 (Gallery One). With multiple outlets across Dubai and several in London – the concept was based on culturally relevant products within a unique retail format. Alongside private equity partners, the g-1 Group grew to more than 20 outlets and a prestigious client-base for whom the g-1 studios developed bespoke products.

Gregg is a strong communicator; engaging and persuasive amongst C suite clients and is equally at home amongst designers, strategists and creative teams. He engages on projects with brand and design consultancies as well as working alongside clients as part of major brand or culturally-based product initiatives.

Design Consultancy Management

Gregg has built and led multi-disciplinary design teams. With substantial international leadership experience, he is adept in design across all aspects of brand development. Gregg successfully sold his 84-person branding and design consultancy to WPP in 2010. Gregg Sedgwick Creative Strategy (gscs) was renamed gsFitch.

Gregg was previously Executive Creative Director at Sedgwick Richardson (SR), Asia’s leading independent design and branding consultancy with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam. SR works with renowned clients across Greater China and Southeast Asia.

In 2017, Gregg founded ArtComm, a product design and retail brand development consultancy. This was sold in a management buy out in 2020.

Brand Development Leadership

Gregg brings creative intuition, strong strategic skills and experience to the brand development process. He leads strategists, designers and visualisers to create compelling brand propositions. Presented to board level clients with conviction and care, Gregg has led major brand development projects for global clients. Within the studio, Gregg is hands-on leader – with a passion for detail in design and way with words that cuts through branding/design hyperbole.

Creative Management

Gregg has an ability to distil complex issues into a creative ‘big idea’. He can define the ‘purpose’ of a brand and construct words and images to support a ‘promise’. Good with people and especially cognisant of the ‘team’ dynamic – Gregg brings a unifying effect to create outstanding results. Conscious of commercial considerations, Gregg also understands the need to provide value whilst making a profit.

Cultural Retail Development

A lover of museum/gallery shops, Gregg developed an independent ‘cultural’ retail group, Gallery One (g-1). Headquartered in the Dubai Design District (d3) and with over 20 retail outlets, the UK’s Daily Telegraph listed the retailer as one of the ‘top three’ places to visit in Dubai. Almost all products were created by Gregg’s in-house team. In 2017, Gregg raised significant private equity investment and in a management buyout, Gregg divested from the group in 2020.

Product Development

Gregg has significant experience in retail product development – particularly in the arts/cultural retail sector. He has built multiple product ranges for Museum/Gallery/Event style shops and generated multi-million dollar revenues within various categories; artworks, ceramics, textiles, stationery. From concept and visualisation through to branding and packaging – Gregg is skilled at creating strategically targeted and visually coordinated product ranges.

Commercial Development

An experienced leader of successful organisations, Gregg is a rare blend of creative and commercial acumen. He is an advisor to several design/creative studios and, as a mentor to founders, he assists in establishing pathways to growth and potential exit. Having built creative companies and successfully sold shares to significant investors – Gregg can provide insight and advice on service proposition, value creation and growth strategies.

Tuition/Mentorship

Gregg provides one to one guidance and mentorship for young and emerging talent. He has worked with school age students preparing for university application or perhaps just needing extra tuition in key areas. He has also worked with many young graphic designers looking to take the next step into more strategic roles in branding. His approach is based on easily understood principles and simpification of the design process.
